The Crisis Stabilization Unit at Banyan Community Health provides immediate counseling and referral services to individuals over the age of 18 who are experiencing mental health or substance abuse crises. This includes: Crisis counseling Detox Services Referrals Family intervention Physical and psychological evaluation Mental health and case management services Assistance locating step-down services, long-term treatment, or permanent housing Substance abuse and mental health screenings We provide comprehensive outpatient and inpatient services as a positive, temporary alternative for individuals who might otherwise face voluntary or involuntary hospitalization and/or incarceration. The Baker Act Our Crisis Stabilization Unit is the designated Public Baker Act receiving facility for adults in Miami-Dade County. The Florida Mental Health Act, commonly referred to as the “Baker Act” allows for involuntary admission and evaluation to be provided to individuals who are experiencing a mental health or substance abuse crisis. Under the Baker Act, loved ones can seek evaluation and services for individuals who: May pose a danger to themselves or others Are unable to determine their need for care May be at risk of suffering neglect Refuse to care for themselves, putting their own well-being at risk Through the Baker Act, a person can be involuntarily placed in a care environment for up to 72 hours, pending further evaluation and potential treatment.
