The Beachcomber

The Beachcomber is a Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment Facility ,was founded in 1976 We have three locations: Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, and Fort Lauderdale. Our primary focus is treating individuals struggling with substance abuse issues, but have a secondary focus on Mental Health. We offer the full continuum of care and typically recommend a 90 – 120 day minimum between our inpatient and outpatient services. Our Residential Treatment Program (RTC) is a 28-day commitment and consists of group and individual therapy; our High-Intensity Outpatient Program (HIOP) is a day treatment program that runs six hours per day, six days per week and is also a 28-day minimum, our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is 8 – 12 weeks and consists of three-hour groups, three days per week, and OP (Outpatient Program) which is it’s a 50-minute group – once a week and is a one-year commitment. All clients are randomly urine tested for alcohol and other substances on a weekly basis and can provide more rigorous testing if warranted. All of our programming includes individual therapy at least once a week, but cater to more individual therapy if needed. Our lengths of stay are based on clinical progress and are subject to change based on the individual’s personal needs. We are 12 step based, but are supportive of any support group individuals choose to engage in - we mainly want to know that they're receiving support outside of our programming. We employ therapeutic techniques such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodrama, Motivational Interviewing, Relapse Prevention Skills, Rapid Resolution Trauma therapy. The Beachcomber offers some specific groups: Our Integrated Recovery group where folks can work on process addictions including: gambling, shopping, food, gaming, porn, and sex. Our Adult Children of Alcoholics/Addicts group engages clients in processing their parents' addiction or alcoholism and how it affected their upbringing and world view. Our Trauma Group allows individuals to process traumatic experiences in their life and work towards developing coping skills to address the issues they've been suppressing by engaging in substance abuse. Our Relapse Prevention Workshop focuses on five different exercises identifying relapse warning signs and triggers - the group gets very close and employs lots of peer feedback and peer support. The clinician facilitating the group assists the group members in facilitating each other's exercises. Our LGBTQ+ group in the Fort Lauderdale location offers LGBT therapists, along with group and individual sessions. In addition, LGBTQ+ alumni are encouraged to come back every Friday for alumni sessions specifically designed for the LGBT community. Chem-sex program focuses on the addiction to Crystal meth, as well as sex addiction. This involves addressing both a substance use it self, and the underlying psychological and emotional factors that contribute to the behavior. Identifying triggers, developing coping mechanisms, and building a support network.
